How to clean dryer vents, improving the efficiency of the dryer and keep your home safe

Most of us are familiar with cleaning the lint trap in the dryer, but that’s just a step to remove any lint system. The dryer lint is extremely flammable and is the cause of many home fires. The accumulation of lint also results in longer times dried. Keep the vent and clean dryer lint to ensure the safety of your family and maximize the efficiency of the dryer.

Instructions

  1. Remove the lint filter and clean the dryer lint trap. Using the accessory extension of your vacuum cleaner, sucking lint that has accumulated below the lint trap.
  2. Turn off the power or gas to your dryer. The dryer away from the wall to access the dryer vent in the back. Remove the dryer pipe by loosening the clamp.
  3. Vent sucks fluff in the back of the dryer, and the pipe end as far as possible inside the tube. If possible, remove the entire tube, get out there and shake to remove more lint.
  4. Vacuum the floor around the dryer and clean the wall behind the dryer. While you’re at it, sweep and mop the floor under the dryer.
  5. Check the louvered vent on the outside of the house and removes all the fluff at the end. Use the vacuum cleaner to remove lint that is not in sight.
  6. Reconnect the hose to the dryer and put the clamp. Replace the dryer and reconnect the power. Put clean lint catcher in place.

Tips and Warnings

  • Consider replacing the flexible plastic tube with smooth metal tube. Wrinkles and creases in the plastic tube contained much fluff, increasing the potential for fire and adding more drying time by restricting airflow.
