How to Fix a Kenmore 70 Series washer that does not spin

The Kenmore washers are sold exclusively by Sears, either through its stores, catalogs or web site. Kenmore is a brand, not a real producer. Washing machines are manufactured by other brands of major appliances, either Whirlpool or Frigidaire. Regardless of the manufacturer, Kenmore washers have always had the reputation of being built to last, and are sold with a one year warranty. You will need

  • Phillips
  • Flathead screwdriver
  • Replacing the Lid Switch

Instructions

  1. Disconnect the washer Kenmore 70 Series grasping the plug firmly and pulling it back from the wall.
  2. Remove the caps on the ends of the machine by hand and use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws on each side of the top panel of the washer.
  3. Pull forward the top of the console Kenmore 70 Series washer and lift to recline back. Locate the three wires connector moves down on top of the console and unplug.
  4. Locate the spring clips that hold the back panel to the top panel in each hand side of the machine and use a flathead screwdriver to pry up and release.
  5. Lift the cover of the washer base to expose the lid switch, and replace it with new. Reassemble your Kenmore 70 Series washing machine, reversing the steps you took to remove. Connect the machine to the power outlet.

Tips and Warnings

  • The replacement for the lid switch for Kenmore washer series 70 is the Sears part number 3949238.
  • Make sure the tabs on the bottom of the washer fit securely in the guide slots in the cabinet of the washer when you put them back together.
