How to fix broken copper tubing of a refrigerator

Some refrigerators have an ice maker and cold water dispenser. To reach the water cooler, copper tubing or plastic supplies water from under the kitchen sink at the back of the refrigerator. If leaks are detected behind the unit and nuts that attach the copper tubing to refrigerator are too tight, then there may be a leak in the pipe. Fortunately, replacing a copper pipe requires no welding.

You will need

  • Wrench
  • Tray
  • Copper tubing

Instructions

  1. Unplug the refrigerator.
  2. Close the water supply to the refrigerator by turning the handle connecting the water supply to the kitchen refrigerator clockwise. Full glasses of water a few water dispenser in the refrigerator to remove water from the pipe.
  3. Place a bucket under the copper pipe under the sink. Turn the compression nut on copper tubing for water under the sink counterclockwise with a wrench. Remove the pipe from the valve.
  4. Place a bucket under the supply pipe where it meets the refrigerator. Turn the compression nut counterclockwise to remove the pipe from the fridge.
  5. Take the copper tubing to the store to find a replacement of the same length.
  6. Connect the new tubing into the refrigerator by tightening the compression nuts and opening the water supply.
